The drive from Lyon to Milano was long but spectacular. We journeyed through spectacular countryside, with castles perched upon rocky outcrops then up and along the Alps. There were tunnels carved out of the mountains that made you stop and think what an engineering feat for those who constructed these. We crossed into Italy half way along one of those tunnels. Arriving in Milano with plenty of time to check into our Hotel and out for a spot of shopping, yeah!
Before leaving this region we had one more stop to make. A highly respected sculptor had agreed to meet with us and we were to see his workshop. His name is Ugo Riva and his sculptures are breathtaking. We had an interpreter with us so we were able to communicate. We spent an hour with him and he generously answered all our questions. We also had a glimpse of his upcoming exhibition of his drawings. As we were about to leave he handed us each 4 of his books on his work and an invitation to his exhibition which luckily enough was the following Friday night in Florence. We were so honoured to be given this opportunity. With our heads in the clouds we left to continue on to Pisa.
